Obviously Goff thinks Brown hasn’t yet run out of other people’s money - what Labour MP ever does? The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance has been quick off the mark to condemn this proposed extra burden on hard pressed ratepayers.
GOFF'S PROPOSED NEW MOTORWAY TAX WOULD CONTINUE BROWN'S LEGACY
The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is slamming Labour’s MP and Auckland mayoral candidate Phil Goff’s comments today supporting a congestion charge every time motorists enter the city if he is elected Mayor. 3 News tonight reported that Mr Goff wants to use a congestion charge to raise money to pay for the Council’s share of the inner city rail link.
Carmel Clardige, Spokesperson for the Ratepayers’ Alliance, says:
“Aucklanders have had enough of politicians simply piling on more rates, user charges, and levies. We need a Mayor who will cut wasteful Council spending and find the efficiencies ratepayers were promised with the Super City amalgamation.”
“Ratepayers would support congestion charging if the amounts raised were used to reduce rates and other Council charges. Here Mr Goff appears to want motorists to be his cash cows."
“Where is the vision in simply piling on another tax every time something new is on the agenda? That is not a plan for a liveable city - it's a guarantee of an increasingly unaffordable city."
