Mike Lee let down every Waiheke ratepayer today when he voted to side with the Mayor to further increase our rates by a whopping 3.5% each year over the next decade. That’s a cumulative 41%.
The hefty rise represents yet another broken promise from profligate Mayor of Auckland Len Brown. But what can we expect of a man who thinks nothing of breaking his marital vows despite being a professed Christian. Let’s face it, it’s what we’ve come to expect from our lying, cheating mayor. But we have to remember he’s propped up by a cabal of Socialist Councillors, of which Councillor for Waitemata and the Hauraki Gulf Mike Lee is but one.
To put the increase in perspective NZ’s annual inflation rate is only 1%. Our rates meanwhile are out of control at 3.5 times inflation. Rates are rapidly catching up to income tax and GST as the biggest slice of our before tax income. For many elderly on fixed incomes rates represent their biggest tax. I don’t believe the government can continue supporting local government who are plainly out of control throughout the country. Councils contributed to inflation in the last year with overall increases of 4%.
But wait there’s more……
Brown, supported by Lee, is daily dreaming up new taxes for us all to pay. Only yesterday the Brown/Lee combo said they wanted us to pay an additional 40% to bury our dead on Waiheke in the 'great grave robbery'.
Then there’s the ‘congestion’ tax on roads, the tyre tax etc..etc.
I’ve written before about what an economic illiterate Mike Lee is. After all what can we expect from a Unionist promoted way above his ability to run the Auckland Regional Council. Here’s just one example of his money management when he was at the ARC. He cost us all $40 million when he bought Queens Wharf 'for the people'. It houses a cruise terminal in an old warehouse as our visitor gateway to Auckland, and Council will soon be putting up a state house as a piece of art with a $750,000 chandelier at the end of the wharf. You couldn’t make it up. Queens Wharf, by any standards, is a disgrace.
