This is yet another example of lack of transparency and accountability that has become the hallmark of this failed second Waiheke Local Board.
Having secured tenure for itself for the next ten to twenty years the Trust is now busy extending its influence over the surrounding Alison Park. The Friends of Alison Park, a group with a vision and plan for the Park that has been adopted by the WLB has been trying unsuccessfully to realise that vision.
Friends of Alison Park were promised by the Board, through its Parks officer Gary Wilton, that they would have primary involvement in the development of the park. However, this is no longer the case. Instead, a group led by the WRT has been given control of park development. This group is already changing the agreed plan and making the reserve its own. All this has been done without keeping the Friends in the loop.
Once again the community is kept out of involvement in favour of the Board’s crony groups.
Of further note is that Green activist Parks Officer Gary Wilton is now a Council contractor, doubtless with very lucrative contracts paid for by the ratepayers of Waiheke and is establishing himself under the umbrella of, you guessed it, a Trust.
This Board has driven deep divisions throughout the community with its cronyism and favouritism. Add lack of transparency, accountability and endless waste of our money to the mix and you get the perfect recipe for failure.
