Earth is 15 years from a "mini ice age" that will cause bitterly cold winters during which rivers freeze over, scientists have predicted.
Solar researchers at the University of Northumbria have created a new model of the sun's activity which they claim produces "unprecedentedly accurate predictions".
They said fluid movements within the sun, thought to create 11-year cycles in the weather, will converge in such a way that temperatures will fall dramatically in the 2030s.
Solar activity will fall by 60 per cent as two waves of fluid "effectively cancel each other out", according to Professor Valentina Zharkova.
In a presentation to the National Astronomy Meeting in Wales, she said the result would be similar to freezing conditions of the late 17th century. "[In the cycle between 2030 and 2040] the two waves exactly mirror each other - peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the sun," she said.
"Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other. We predict this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum'."
Maunder minimum, indicating low sunspot activity, was the name given to the period between 1645 and 1715 when Europe and North America experienced very cold winters.
In England during this "Little Ice Age", River Thames frost fairs were held. In the winter of 1683-84 the Thames froze over for seven weeks, making it "passable by foot", according to historical records.
Brian Fallow does not seem to understand that the objective of emissions reduction is to "stop dangerous global warming". I can only assume that he has never looked at the results of the five leading temperature records (climate4you.com) that all show there has been no significant warming for 12-18 years. Even the IPCC admit that this is the case and they also admit that they don't know why.
The fact that none of the climate models predicted that the world would stop warming proves that they are worthless for future temperature predictions. Yet everything that Brian wrote about is based on the assumption that they are accurate. "The are none so blind as those that cannot see."
Brian also appears to have ignored the latest research on solar effects that says that it is almost certain that the world is headed for a little ice age. Something that is far more terrifying than moderate – and probably beneficial – warming.
He also seems to be quite unaware that the increased levels of carbon dioxide have promoted plant growth and this is estimated to have benefited agriculture worldwide by more than $3 trillion. For comparison, the world has squandered $2 trillion on solar and wind power with no measurable effect on carbon dioxide emissions. Its only effect has been to massively increase the cost of power to poor people because it needs to be heavily subsidised.
I can only assume that he does not care about poor people and people in developing countries who are denied the benefit of electricity from cheap and clean coal-fired stations by people who share his beliefs. He should either do some study on the subject or stop commenting about something upon which he is seriously ignorant.
The global warming lie is unravelling as predictions fail to come true. It is noticeable that the claims of the Alarmists are growing increasingly hysterical. They flail around like so many bird-killing, bat-chomping wind turbines that generate wind and noise pollution but no useful energy. These virtually useless energy sources can’t cope now. Imagine how ill-prepared the Green energy movement will have left the world if in barely fifteen years the next Ice Age cometh.
