This is revealed in Ron Walden’s submission to the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan. He wants three of his properties rezoned as ‘Future Urban Development’ under a submission to change the RUB (Rural Urban Boundary) in the Auckland Plan. This includes a large tract of land on Seaview Road and a big area of Tiri Rd in Oneroa, both of which currently lie just outside the RUB in the island’s Green Belt.
The landholdings are extensive on all sites. They are large enough to accommodate small village size developments. At one fell swoop the character of the island would be changed forever if the plans go ahead. The developer is already shipping homes onto his properties across Auckland Council reserve land. I am unaware of any applications by Walden for consent to do so.
Ron Walden is the father of Waiheke Local Board Chair Paul Walden. He, and his family, are also part owners of several other Waiheke properties.
It’s another case of ‘do as I say, not as I do’ from the Board Chair. Ironically, the submission opposes changes to the RUB for all other properties on Waiheke except their own.
The Waiheke Marketplace and Gulf News will be in overdrive this week with a propaganda story portraying Paul Walden as opposing changes to the RUB. There will be no mention of the Walden development proposals.
Do not be taken in. It is yet another example of the gross hypocrisy of the current WLB Chair.
