Informed Decision Making
Most Thursdays the Board has a workshop. This is where we get briefings and reports on all the many and varied topics affecting our work. This includes reports on subjects where the Board has requested further information, briefings on matters over which we have decision making authority (parks, libraries, community facilities, events, small local improvements etc), relationships with CCOs and much more. Unlike the previous community boards, local boards are part of Auckland Council and are required to give input into region-wide policies, plans, by-laws, as well as developing our own local board plans and agreements. Workshops allow the Board to ask questions of officers, assimilate information, have frank interchange of ideas so that we are better informed when we do have to make decisions at our monthly business meetings. No decisions are made at workshops. All decisions are made in public at the board meetings.
It is vital for good decision making that members are as fully informed on issues as possible. Minutes of workshops and attendance are on our agenda each month.
