Actually, there's sod all in the budget for me, but then I don't need the government's help, I stand on my own two feet and take responsibility for myself and my family. But I understand that's not everyone, and so do they, and today they announced a package of measures that made Labour green with envy, and made the Greens labour heavily in trying to deliver any sort of credible response.
They are the Kiwi blokes of old, John and Bill, good buggers, who have only the interest of NZ as a nation at heart. And they have delivered. Bloody marvellous. And they have done it with their hands tied. Imagine what they could do with a decent majority? And let's suppose they get one. I'll wager they continue to work closely with the Maori Party. I am instinctively opposed to race based politics, but credit where credit is due - the MP has played a significant role in all of this. Good on them. But then again, time was when Pakeha and Maori stood shoulder to shoulder in NZ, as Kiwis. It is only the left who have driven a wedge between them in an attempt to garner support of a so called disenfranchised minority.
Trust in politicians is increasingly rare. Generally they are a bunch of devious and dishonest scumbags - on all sides of the political spectrum. But John and Bill are above all that. Of course, the fact that neither needs the money helps - a throwback to the days when politics was vocational rather than a career. I think we can, and should all be proud of these blokes, and what they are doing for us. I look around the world, and I can honestly say there is not a first world government led with the integrity or the ability that we have in John and Bill. Not bad for a small island in the South Pacific, eh? Long may it continue. Jerry Flay
