After five years of ballooning rates, debt and bureaucracy, the ratepayers of Auckland said enough is enough. The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance was formed to shine a light on Auckland Council’s culture of waste, lack of accountability and transparency, and to fight for lower rates. Within six months the new organisation had over 14000 members, 600 volunteers and had forced Council to back down on some wasteful spending.
