Baggers represented the environmental lobby, binners were seen to be traitors to the environmental cause. Families were split, friends became enemies, lines were drawn in the sand that you’d think could never be crossed again.
Now there’s a chance for peace and reconciliation. The Board has supported in principle the ‘BYO’ bag campaign to free Waiheke of plastic bags. At a workshop on Thursday with Council’s Waste Minimisation team and campaign representatives, attended by Board members Faye, Don, Jim and myself, the Board was asked topromote “the use of bins rather that plastic bags for kerbside collection”. Plastic bags are OUT.Bins are IN.
