The Esplanade re-opened to all road users yesterday. Today I have been round twice and watched cars, families, dog walkers, cyclists and motor cyclists all sharing this fabulous low speed route with mutual regard for each other.
The extent to which sea erosion had undermined the Esplanade during its closure became evident during reconstruction work. (See my photos).
It is clear that it wouldn’t have been long before the road became unusable. The Board’s decision to support AT’s option of creating a two way slow speed environment has proved timely in restoring a much loved scenic route. Motorists, cyclists, horse riders, and walkers as well as AT experts have all been involved in a design that encourages all road users to share in safety.
Mutual respect and courtesy is the key to putting this divisive issue behind us.
