Three pieces of good news were received by the Board last week that should gladden the hearts of commuters.
1. An upgrade to Pier 2 to provide better, more comfortable seating and shelter from the elements.
2. A new ferry to replace the Jet Raider in November
3. Changes to leased parking at Matiatia that will free up more carparks
At Thursday’s Local Board Meeting Auckland Transport announced upgrades of both Pier 2 on Quay St and the Matiatia ferry building. Pier 2 will be getting better seating and shelter from the elements. This is something Faye, Don and I have been demanding since we took office, so it was great to hear AT have finally listened to us and found the money to make the changes in the near future. Their reluctance has stemmed from knowing big changes are planned to the Waterfront area but we have advocated strongly that it is a problem NOW and must be fixed sooner rather than later. Another win for the ‘A’ Team
More good news came last week from Fullers. They are building a new ferry in Whangarei to replace the Jet Raider. It is due to come into service in November and should provide commuters with a more comfortable ride that the workhorse it will replace.
Changes to the leaseholder parking area closest to the terminal at Matiatia will free up much needed short-term parking space so those travelling to town after 9am will be able to find a carpark.
