WLB members, who can hardly be bothered to turn up to local board meetings or attend local board workshops, nevertheless found the time to have a weekend away on Great Barrier Island at ratepayers' expense.
Three Green dominated local boards, Waiheke, Waitakere and Great Barrier, all thought it was a great use of ratepayers money to have a holiday on Great Barrier Island at the end of October. All Waitakere and Waiheke local board members flew to Barrier where they were wined and dined by the Great Barrier Local Board courtesy of ratepayers.
All these Boards use the same model of handing ratepayers money over to various supposedly environmental Trusts where there is no accountability or transparency for the money. In this way they reward the local Green groups for their support and pay for Green Party propaganda using our money. Presumably they met to exchange ideas in case any of them was missing a trick.
Local Boards are there to represent their areas. Party political conferences are ratepayers expense under the guise of ‘liaison’ visits are nothing more than taking their ratepayers for a ride.
At least Sandra Coney reported back on the visit to her community through the Chairman’s Report on the Local Board agenda, complete with photographs of them all enjoying themselves thoroughly. Unlike Waiheke, where agendas only appear at the last minute, Waitakere publishes theirs in a timely fashion, complete with a Chairman’s report. Coney’s report shows they all had a lovely time.
34. We were lucky to watch the Rugby World Cup final with locals at GB and celebrate that historic win in such a hospitable and beautiful place.
35. We also had a bit of fun when we found an old Yellow Bus Company bus in a field at Awana, with a “Piha” destination showing. The owner kindly let us muck around and take some photos – we joked we would take it back to spear-head the proposed outer area shuttle service we are hoping Auckland Transport will help us provide.
On the other hand, Paul Walden, Chair of the Waiheke Local Board, has never reported back to the community with a Chairman’s report visible for the public to read on a Board agenda. Is he trying to hide the fact that he does very little unless it is to further his own personal agenda or that of his Green Party mentors, Roche and Stansfield?
Every week Walden is allowed to bleat about the lack of money he has from Auckland Council in his propaganda sheet, the Gulf News. I doubt Waiheke ratepayers will be impressed when they learn that he, and the rest of the Waiheke Local Board, use what scarce resources they do have to take go for a weekend long junket. Or spend nearly $1000 of ratepayers money so Shirin Brown could attend a 'Global Insights Conference' last month that had zero benefit for Waiheke ratepayers.
No wonder yesterday’s blog exposing how the Waiheke Local Board is using ratepayer funds to further Green Party ambitions has attracted over 2000 views and 122 Facebook ‘likes’ so far.
Walden, Waiheke Local Board members and the Green boards of Auckland are nothing but hypocrites. Crying wolf over lack of funds doesn’t wash with ratepayers when the same boards use our money to enjoy a long weekend away for a political conference at ratepayers expense.
