Even the Left think Political Correctness has gone too far.
In a strange twist of events Political Correctness is coming under fire from its main proponents, the political left. This recent article in The New Statesman starts to question just how far Political Correctness has taken society along the path of authoritarianism. The topic is religion but the point it makes applies to all those intolerances that have become fashionable.
I believe that religious liberty is meaningless if religious subcultures do not have the right to practise and preach according to their beliefs. These views – for example, on abortion, adoption, divorce, marriage, promiscuity and euthanasia – may be unfashionable. They certainly will strike many liberal-minded outsiders as harsh, impractical, outmoded, and irrelevant.
The author has a point. What happened to tolerance? When even the Left get fed up with the authoritarian nonsense of this long hated trend in society we can be sure the worm has started to turn.
