According to this report on Newstalk 1ZB on Waitangi Day Prime Minister John Key accused hard left Green Party list MP Denise Roche of being 'off with her timing' over her karakia.
Greens under fire for policy-based Waitangi prayer
That’s Waiheke’s hard left Green Party list MP for you, or to paraphrase Margaret Thatcher, "Where there is harmony, may we bring discord.” How typical of Roche to manipulate any occasion to press her increasingly shrill version of ‘green’ policy and how lacking in good judgement.
Lack of good judgement over the karakia is something she’s passed on to her Local Board. They’ve obviously been told they’ve got to do one, but no-one knows how. First they play ‘pass the parcel’. At last Thursday's Board meeting Walden tossed it to Brown who passed it deftly to an unsuspecting Meeuwsen - anything rather than the pathetic attempt by Treadwell at January’s meeting. Then we have the excruciating pronunciation and delivery of words they clearly don’t understand.
It would be funny if it weren’t so sad and disrespectful to Maori.
