What is not in dispute is that after the event the woman made a video portraying herself as a victim, accusing Sir Peter of racism, and, of course, that she is ‘offended’. Her version of events is slightly different to Sir Peter’s. According to Fairfax media, she posted on social media, “yeah, I’m tangata whenua born here mate 23 years ago, in which he responded, ‘well it is a white man’s island now, you need to acknowledge that”. Hmmm, that lacks the ring of truth.
The video has been described in the media as ‘a ten minute rant’. Naturally, the video went viral because it contained accusations of racism against a well know, and liked, media personality. The media lapped it up. This unleashed the left liberal pack attack against Sir Peter with their ‘point and shriek’ tactics on Twitter and Facebook. The 23 year subsequently removed the video: not surprising given it has the hollow ring of self-justification after the event.
I know Sir Peter. He is an affable man. I do not doubt that his motivation in approaching the group was made with the best of intentions to issue a friendly warning, but, as they say, no good deed goes unpunished. This was one of those unseemly little spats that happen from time to time, especially when there is alcohol involved. It should have stayed where it was as a ‘he said, she said’ conversation of little consequence. But such is the elitist, entitlement culture she has grown up in that she goes on social media, making wild accusations of racism while displaying the permanently hurt feelings and victimhood of her purported race and generation.
Her first reaction to being given a friendly warning about drink driving was not to thank Sir Peter for his concern but instead to resort to claims that she is ‘tangata whenua’, something I doubt unless she is Ngati Poua, which is highly unlikely as hardly any of them live on Waiheke. So steeped is the poor snowflake in entitlement culture that she resorts to a race based remark at the first opportunity. Why? Because she has been told all her life, through her family, her education and her tribe, that she is one of the ‘elite’ people who, because someone in the ethnic mix of her ancestry was a colonist who came her earlier than the hated ‘white man’, are entitled to be above the law of the land.
Has she any idea how stupid and pathetic she looks to the vast majority of Kiwis? She has reacted like a spoilt brat who takes herself and her opinions way too seriously. ‘I am ‘tangata whenua’ the cry baby blurts, not even knowing what that means.
The spat has laid bare the deep divisions in New Zealand society that have been created in the last forty years with the escalation of race based ‘rights’ and privileges in what was once a society based on the egalitarian principle of one law for all.
They that sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind. She has deliberately created the heat. If she can’t take it, and what snowflake can, she needs to get out of the kitchen. At the very least she should apologise to Sir Peter. He is not a racist but everything about this woman’s comments say far more about her than it does about him.
