Criticism of Auckland mayor Len Brown was everywhere in the papers over the weekend as rates rises draw near and local boards seek funding for their plans from the Mayor and Governing Body. It is instructive to hear what elected members from other local boards are saying in social media about their dealing with our mayor-without-a-prayer.
The Chair of Orakei Local Board, Desley Simpson, had this to say on her FaceBook page yesterday.
I've been lied to and ignored.
Chair of the Manurewa Local Board, Angela Dalton, chimed in.
He always does that....always

Desley, there's something very wrong when a 'business' doesn't communicate with its units or 'departments'. It's symptomatic of a sick and dysfunctional organisation. It doesn't even pass the test of good manners let alone effective communication. It suggests that there are many council staff who are too preoccupied with things that don't matter or are of no consequence and can't even tick the priority tasks of their job description let alone get down the list to the 'adding value' or performing beyond expectation as you get in private enterprise.
This bears out my own experience of Brown. His whole tenure is about, well, him. It’s all Public Relations and mirrors. His ‘Mayor in the Chair’ charade is nothing more than a PR exercise designed to get his name in the local papers. As far as he's concerned people only have to ‘think’ he’s listening. I can tell you, he isn’t. He’ll say anything you want to hear but it’s all window dressing. He won’t even remember what was said. He's the PR mayor-without-a-prayer. A lame duck good for nothing.
